The problem is the algorithmic mediation practices of filtering information and its relationship with this effect. It uses the literature review method on the proposed theme and direct observation with digital platforms that make use of filtering. It is concluded that the filtering of information and the “filter bubble” build up a controlled information environment through unknown purposes, generating influences on the informational, social, cultural and political contexts of society. We adopted a descriptive approach involving both quantitative and qualitative elements. The target population consisted of librarians active until March 2019 on the professional register of the Conselho Regional de Biblioteconomia da quinta região (CRB5, the regional library association of the Brazilian Northeastern states of Bahia and Sergipe), a population which then amounted to 595 librarians. However, only the 116 librarians who responded to the survey could be included in the final sample. The results were favorable regarding information evaluation in librarians’ work, but we did remark some concerning weaknesses, as some respondents had trouble distinguishing information frommisinformation. The Leiden Science and Technology Study Center Rankings, as well as other rankings, reflect and value the intellectual production and the evaluation of the quality of higher education institutions. The university, as a producer of knowledge and a participant in the construction of a society, is an institution that strengthens the work of researchers and, consequently, the dissemination of their productions. It is a descriptive work with quantitative observation and bibliographic analysis. The study showed that Brazilian universities have constantly evolved in terms of scientific production, but the universities in American countries remain at the top of the rankings. The challenges are still many, but it is necessary that access to higher education in Brazil is expanded, and, as a consequence, it is believed that there will be an increase in scientific production, new discoveries, advances and appreciation of science. O estudo levou à criação de um método que pode vir a ser utilizado em avaliações, mais precisamente inspeções tecnológicas, de usabilidade de outros repositórios institucionais. O trabalho discute como os quesitos de usabilidade em sistemas de informação digital se relacionam com o RI da universidade pesquisada. Colabora com os estudos informacionais, relacionando a usabilidade a inspeção tecnológica de um repositório institucional. O trabalho resulta de um estudo exploratório, com base em revisão da literatura e observação direta não-participante. O texto remete à reflexão além das métricas para avaliar a usabilidade de um sistema informativo, trazendo à discussão as percepções dos participantes quanto ao uso do sistema. O instrumento de pesquisa consiste em um questionário e um roteiro entrevista semiestruturado. O modelo de investigação adotado diferencia-se de outros estudos por conjugar a análise heurística de dados com entrevistas usuários sem conhecimento prévio em usabilidade. A investigação identifica aspectos que não haviam sido objeto de registro pela organização, tampouco contemplado em atualizações posteriores do sistema por parte do desenvolvedor do RI UFBA. Os resultados encontrados apontam para uma necessidade de atualização do sistema e revelam a existência de pontos a serem aperfeiçoados. ABSTRACT: This research was developed based on the performance of a usability evaluation by users of the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Bahia (RI UFBA). The study led to the creation of a method that can be used in evaluations, more precisely technological inspections, of usability of other institutional repositories. The paper discusses how usability requirements in digital information systems relate to the RI of the researched university. Collaborates with informational studies, relating usability to technological inspection of an institutional repository. The work results from an exploratory study, based on literature review and direct nonparticipant observation. The text refers to the reflection beyond the metrics to evaluate the usability of an information system, bringing to the discussion the participants' perceptions about the use of the system. The research instrument consists of a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview script. The research model adopted differs from other studies by combining heuristic data analysis with user interviews without previous knowledge of usability. The investigation identifies aspects that had not been registered by the organization, nor contemplated in subsequent system updates by the RI UFBA developer. The results point to a need for system update and reveal the existence of points to be improved.
