An action plan was drawn up to reorganize the interface, update the system, and optimize the environment's architecture. The result was the update of Dspace version 3.2 to 5.7, the creation of new tutorials, customization of deposit forms, correction of metadata, provision of documents in open access, formulation of FAQs, and training. This initiative contributed to improving the quality of the RI's scientific communication and dissemination services and making it an inspiration for other repositories to apply the tools and models used. It also presents as reflections on the importance of awareness on the part of library professionals about racism, understanding that this idea permeates a political and ideological project that puts into operation the coloniality of power, saber and being, present throughout a Brazilian social structure. As a methodology, it encompasses action, bibliographical and documentary research. Some of the activities developed by the Library team are presented as preliminary results in view of the Library's afro-centered action in relation to its practices and, above all, in view of its information dissemination actions. It concludes that carrying out Afro-centered activities in library spaces contributes to the positive visibility of cultural diversity, particularly black, indigenous and LGBTQIA+. Finally, it is understood that building possibilities of knowledge that enable access to information to the most different ethnic groups is an exercise in resistance against a single discourse, imposed by anglo-eurocentric thought and ideological project that dehumanizes “other” bodies and not considers experiences and knowledge of socially vulnerable groups as invisible. In a methodological sense, the text adopts the bibliographical and documental research with a view to the starting problem and the stipulated objectives for the project and for the referred work. It briefly presents the emergence of this need based on the demands reported by the Library's users and based on the absence of certain geographic authorities in the indexing instruments agreed upon in the context of the Institution's libraries. Based on this lack, the creation of geographic authorities for the neighborhoods and locations of the city of Salvador was identified as a priority, considering their ethnic-racial, demographic, cultural and historical particularities, as well as the variations in their names. The project has been carried out at the Library in question, having presented satisfactory results regarding the representation of information from bibliographic materials in the collection. It is concluded that the Controlled Vocabulary of neighborhoods and locations in Salvador, in the context of the analyzed academic library, meets the precepts of representation of ethnic-racial information and helps in the retrieval of information from researchers who focus on the specificities of regions, neighborhoods and other locations in the Capital Salvador. In this sense, we sought to reflect on the need for skills and professional skills on descriptive representation of content produced in the digital environment. The survey revealed that the Anglo-American Cataloging Code (AACR2) has been adapted to address this reality, although the Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the cataloging standard designed for the digital environment. The results demonstrated the relevance of defining a specific standard for the cataloging of lives, aiming to promote the access, dissemination, use and preservation of knowledge produced on-line through the AACR2, as well as the need for professional qualification for the use of the new standard adopted for cataloging resources of this nature, such as the RDA cataloging code.
