VOZES DISSONANTES: A REPRESENTAÇÃO DA MULHER COLONIAL NO NOVO ROMANCE HISTÓRICO

Abstract

Esta tese analisa a representação da mulher dentro do contexto colonial a partir de um corpus composto pelos romances Desmundo (1996), da escritora brasileira Ana Miranda, e A árvore das palavras (1997), da portuguesa Teolinda Gersão. As duas narrativas selecionadas são entrecortadas por características em comum, como o protagonismo de narradoras femininas, a ambientação histórica em antigas colônias portuguesas, Brasil e Moçambique, respectivamente, e uma revisitação da história a partir de um paradigma pós-moderno de incredulidade, questionamento e reatualização do passado, conforme propõe o novo romance histórico. Assim, interessa saber de que forma as mulheres são historicamente representadas nos dois romances, enquanto personagens articuladas pela autoria feminina, e como tais representações acionam novas possibilidades de pensar a participação da mulher, nas esferas públicas e privadas, ao longo dos processos históricos, além de desestabilizar os perfis femininos estereotipados pelo discurso masculino. Por meio do método comparativo, foi possível constatar que nas duas narrativas são construídas representações femininas que acionam, em seus respectivos contextos, outros lugares históricos para o protagonismo da mulher, não como espaços dicotômicos, mas constituídos por identidades femininas plurais.

This thesis analyzes the representation of women within the colonial context from a corpus composed by the novels Desmundo (1996), by the brazilian writer Ana Miranda, and A árvore das palavras (1997), by portuguese author Teolinda Gersão. The two selected narratives are interspersed with common features, such as the role of female narrators, the historical setting in former portuguese colonies, Brazil and Mozambique, respectively, and a revisiting of history from a postmodern paradigm of disbelief, questioning, and reappraisal of the past, as proposed by the new historical novel. Thus, it is important to know how women are historically represented in the two novels as characters articulated by female authorship, and how such representations trigger new possibilities for thinking about women's participation, in the public and private spheres, throughout historical processes, in addition to destabilize female profiles stereotyped by male discourse. Through the comparative method, it was possible to verify that in the two narratives women representations are constructed that trigger, in their respective contexts, other historical places for the protagonism of the woman, not as dichotomous spaces, but constituted by feminine plural identities.
